At one end of the scale, you have information like steps and sleep, on the other end you have those features based on blood oxygen and aerobic/anaerobic training effect.

Heart rate accuracy for interval training: Fenix 6X (left), Polar Ignite (center) and chest strap (right) Firstly, instead of presenting a remaining battery percent number as seen in most smartwatches on the market currently, the Fenix 6 now reflects the remaining usage in time. So, say there’s 10% of the battery left, it will display this in days or hours.

The Garmin Fenix 6 doesn’t introduce any software features that drastically set it apart from the previous year’s Garmin Fenix 5 Plus, but rather a number of tweaks and adjustments which all help make the watch more intuitive than before. Heat and altitude affect how well you can performance, your VO2 Max, and your training status. To give you the best possible indication of your how well you actually can perform, the Garmin Fenix 6 shows you your VO2 Max adapted to heat and altitude.

The 6X features Garmin's latest Elevate optical heart rate sensor tech. That tech is used for offering continuous heart rate monitoring, richer sleep data, and a way to measure your workout intensity. The watch can also give you the advanced Running Dynamics and Cycling Dynamics measurements that we know from the Garmin Fenix 5 Plus. But this requires some extra equipment like the HRM-Run/HRM-Tri Heart Rate Strap, FootPod, or Garmin Vector pedals. Silver – The Silver model is the light edition of the Garmin Fenix 6. Silver has the basic functions, but it does NOT have Garmin Pay, Garmin Music, WiFi, built-in map, or the most advanced training functions. While continuous HR monitoring was good on the whole, we'd still opt to pair it up with a chest strap monitor for intense exercise, as the optical sensor still struggles. The first thing you’ll notice about this watch is that huge watch face. The ‘X’ in the name ‘6X’ signifies the large 51 mm case size – the largest in the whole Fenix lineup. It’s made up of a large titanium bezel to protect the 280 x 280 pixel watch face.

Garmin will always be known as a sports watch first, but it continues to improve its abilities as a smartwatch. The Garmin Fenix 6 then calculates the altitude profile of the route and tells you the pace for each segment of the route. There's also the new visual race predictor. On Fenix 6 this tool simply listed predicted times to complete popular race distances. All in all, these nifty software tweaks work really well in helping to extend the Fenix 6’s life while cramming in a host of (more demanding) features. Sapphire Titanium – The Sapphire Titanium model is almost identical to the Sapphire model. The only difference is that the crown is made in titanium, making the watch a bit lighter. The GPS mode is, for example, doubled from the Fenix 5/5S Plus to the Fenix 6/6S. Garmin Fenix 6 also has a completely new Power Manager that tells you how much battery life is left, among other things – and this is noticeably in HOURS rather than PERCENTAGE. Power Manager also makes it super easy to change from different Power Modes, so that you can control its battery use and save power when you do not need all the functions of the watch. The Garmin Fenix 6 comes in three sizes, from 42mm to 52mm in diameter (Image credit: TechRadar) Garmin Fenix 6 price and release date

Garmin Fenix 6 has a built-in safety function that will send messages to your next of kin, if you are in an accident. Alright, this isn’t noticeably slimmer on the wrist but it does feel slightly lighter - weighing 7g less than the previous equivalent model. This is a welcome improvement for a smartwatch known for being rather cumbersome. The Fenix 6X has a very large amount of apps and functions you can take advantage of. The watch comes with some of the essentials preset, such as navigation, maps and walking. It allows you, however, to add or delete activities from the list. There is also the option to set an activity as a favourite which makes it show up at the top of the list for easier access. Here is the complete list of watches in the Garmin Fenix 6 collection that Garmin expects to release. Notice that not all models will be available from day one.Garmin Fenix 6 comes with a pre-installed topographical Europe map with a real turn-by-turn navigation that we know from a driver’s navigation. It enables your watch to access multiple bands of satellite systems, improving the reliability of your connection and thus improving accuracy. Its rugged design and durability means I’ve been able to use it during all my regular outdoors activities with no fear of it being damaged by the elements. Different watches in the Fenix 6 and 7 lines carry different price tags, with the basic models costing less than those with Sapphire crystal or Power Glass. However, all new Fenix 7 watches are more expensive than their older counterparts.
