but when they met again after 4 years, it was obvious they shared a comfortable relationship, the big brother-small sister kinda bond. A librarian by training and a booklover at heart, Tessa makes her home in Southern California, where she lives with her husband, their two children, and a trio of cosmic kitties. She believed that women should have the vote, that prisoners should have better rations, that war widows should have pensions. While I thoroughly enjoyed the amusing scenes, those situations where their sincere feelings are depicted really pulled me into the lives of this couple because of the genuineness of their words and actions. One of those reasons was that she had been in mourning for her younger brother, Henry, who had died in battle. His Bride for the Taking is a historical romance novella about Mary Clayton and Sebastian, Lord Byrne. I've been feeling kind of slumpy reading-wise this month, and this was the perfect tiny little pick-me-up. For arguments sake, you may assume all books reviewed on this site were sent for review by one of the above mentioned (though the truth is probably somewhere closer to 70%).

Sebastian can’t stand to see his friend’s sister, the woman he’s been secretly in love with since childhood, jilted on the most important day of her life. This was a very fun read with minimal angst, steamy goodness, likeable characters, and a quick-moving story. This novella was originally published in Rogues Rush In: a Regency Duet (2018), by Tessa Dare and Christi CaldwellIt’s the first rule of friendship among gentlemen: Don’t even think about touching your best friend’s sister. It didn’t help that he was built like a Viking warrior, tall and broad-shouldered, with features struck from bronze. has really kicked my ass so I’m happy to finally be reading again and the quality of this one made me super happy. As such, her brother's best friend Sebastian insists on wedding her himself to protect her reputation. Tessa Dare is really good at bringing the humor and for such a short story, she packed it real nicely into this one. It's a typical Tessa Dare story - a hero who's a badass on the outside but turns to marshmallow fluff around the woman he loves, a heroine who knows what she wants and isn't afraid to go after it, a side of general ridiculousness and hilarity, some swoon, and a happily ever after. there's also the little incentive that he has been hopelessly in love with her for the last 11 years since he met her, but that's beside the point.

The poor lady has lost her brother and has been forced by circumstance to marry his best friend or face ruin! Things seem to keep going from bad to worse on this ill-fated attempt at a honeymoon, but Mary is determined to make the best of it and to make her new husband her true husband despite his insistence that they take it slowly. Its a novella, so not a lot of room for character growth, and I don't think the plot could handle much more anyway. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. Except after they get married, they gotta get all their lies out on the table for processing or something. When Mary is stood up at the altar, Sebastian steps up for her, and things really take off from there. After reading other works of Tessa Dare, namely Girl meets Duke trilogy, I had high hopes for this one.

That might make marginally more sense in the context of her fighting for votes for women and actually having a wedding dress. Emotionally satisfying, sprinkled with humour, scorching attraction, inner conflict trying to resist the irresistible, characters you can so easily root for.But a spur-of-the-moment declaration stating they will be wed could result in them both finding lasting happiness or doom them depending on how each reacts. When the secrets were finally revealed by all involved, it took a while to sort through the issues before the HEA was achieved. He agreed to Vanessa’s ruse for her adorable son’s sake and for the opportunity to claim some “husbandly” pleasures. In particular, you have a pretty great heroine who doesn't mindlessly go along with a notorious rake.
