Noddy had appeared in the sky crucified, and since Christ was God, therefore Noddy was also God, so he was Goddy. The first 300 copies will come with a signed bookplate and a 32pp EHR Colour Supplement, containing a selection of colour images, which now appear in black and white in the current edition.

A newly expanded edition of David Keenan’s seminal secret history of the UK’s esoteric underground, England’s Hidden Reverse, which now includes a selection of interviews and reflections that initially appeared in the bonus zine, Furfur, which came with the special edition published in 2016. Strange Attractor Press are proud to announce the release of a new revised and expanded edition of David Keenan’s seminal secret history of the UK’s esoteric underground, England’s Hidden Reverse. The book was the definitive biography of UK experimental music groups Coil, Current 93 and Nurse With Wound, and chronicled these artists’ development and growth alongside the post-punk post-industrial underground music scene that birthed them, from the late 70s through to the present. Tibet, Sleazy and Balance all start off in Psychic TV, Genesis’s post-TG project, contributing the intellectual scaffolding and musical direction to PTV’s best and most iconic albums Force The Hands Of Chance (1982) and Dreams Less Sweet (1983), before becoming disillusioned with the direction Gen was going in and starting out on their own. Ich hatte ja an anderer Stelle bereits erwähnt, dass es mir allmählich unter den Nägeln juckt, wieder vermehrt musikalische Orbits abseits heimeliger 90er-BM-Kannonaden abzuschweifen.

It's not an easy read simply because it can be pretty dark and depressing in terms of themes and just the personalities involved.

David Keenan shares the mysterious histories of Coil, Current 93 and Nurse With Wound, three different but similar experimental aural adventurers, not quite a collective but with more than nebulous ties, in ENGLAND’S HIDDEN REVERSE.

It’s fun to hang out with these mystics, though sometimes their drug-fueled religious fetishism can get a bit portentous, it’s never short of entertaining. To enter into the work of any of these groups is to enter a world dense with intertextual references and allusions, to undergo a mind-expanding induction into a wider world full of strangeness and wonder, a recurring motif in Keenan’s own fictional work. The new edition comes redesigned and expanded with two new chapters, one of which "traces the transgressive urge that animates industrial culture all the way from Palaeolithic cave art through rock n roll and punk rock and up to contemporary noise music", as well as previously unseen photographs, and will be published in late November by Strange Attractor Press, the publishing house that put out tQ editor John Doran's recent book, Jolly Lad. Like the Throbbing Gristle book, Wreckers of Civilisation, this is one of the most comprehensive and important books chronicling a cadre of people whose eccentricity, artistic dedication, and uncompromising worldview is virtually unmatched in late 20th century music.

There's loads of detail and eyewitness accounts given for time in the studio and early live gigs by the main players (supplemented with like-minded cohorts: Drew McDowall, Rose McDowall, Stephen Thrower and Thighpaulsandra, etc. England’s Hidden Reverse is an impressive, illustrated, hard backed volume coupled with a CD of music by Nurse With Wound, Current 93 and Coil. Not for the very squeamish or close minded but I imagine such a person wouldn’t be picking up such a gnarly volume to begin with. The text is a fascinating look at the lives of London-based musicians from these and other bands and the interconnected nature of their social and artistic endeavours.
